Abstract
The quality of higher education in Colombia has traditionally been focused on addressing coverage issues and eliminating access barriers to the system. However, crucial challenges are looming that will be decisive for the sustainability of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the country. This study gathers information from a literature review and a descriptive statistical analysis, with the aim of examining the quality of higher education and the major challenges associated with it. Special attention is paid to the social, territorial, economic and political dynamics that influence both the decisions of new students entering the system, as well as the social trends that are transforming the demand and supply of academic programs.
